Use Your Own Map on Your Factorio Server

Prefer to design your own map? Generate it in your Factorio client, then upload it to your server. Here's how.

Generate and save your map

1. Open Factorio on your computer.
2. Go to Play → Multiplayer → New Game.
3. Choose the settings you want, then click Generate.
4. Set the maximum latency you'll allow (players above it won't be able to join).
5. Set autosave and "allow commands" however you prefer.
6. Make sure Use peer-to-peer communication is unticked.
7. Click Play.
8. Once loaded, press Esc → Save game and save it as default.

Upload it to your server

9. Find the save on your computer — usually C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\saves.
10. With the server stopped, upload default.zip to your server's saves folder.
11. Start the server — you're now playing on your own map.

Already have a save? Just rename its .zip to default.zip and upload it to the saves folder (the last two steps above).
